A new life has been breathed into the protected cultural monument, which attracts with its unique combination of heritage and modernity
At the junction of Central Europe and the Mediterranean with spectacular views of the Kvarner Bay, Rivia Arts & Culture Hotel connects the continent and the sea, heritage and modernity, the global world and local life. Located between the pioneer of Croatian tourism, the elegant lady of Opatija and the European capital of culture, urban Rijeka, Rivia Arts & Culture Hotel inherits the best of different worlds. Conceived as a junction of local specificities and global trends, leisure and active cultural life, hedonism and introspection, Rivia Arts & Culture Hotel is the stage for diverse stories based on Croatian achievements.
Planned as a year-round destination, Rivia Arts & Culture Hotel embraces different domains of culture. Gastronomic and oenological offer, immersive spa, functional multi-purpose hall, art and design collection and various events are part of a carefully conceived whole that is constantly changing and discovering anew. Rivia Arts & Culture Hotel constantly gives new reasons to visit.
Rivia Arts & Culture Hotel connects modernism and contemporaneity. The original project is the award-winning work of the architect Ivan Vitić, a hero of Croatian modernism. A visit to the playful Hotel is varied and individualized. Visitors can choose between “retro” accommodation in the main building, “contemporary” rooms in the pavilion or villas, and all have in common a strong connection with nature. In the interiors, guests discover a skillfully selected collection of modern art and design in which the works of contemporary authors are woven. For Rivia, culture never stops, it is not a decoration, but a driver of activity…
Croatian excellence and the revival of cultural heritage with the aim of developing a premium destination
Rivia Arts & Hotel is more than a tourist entity. HGK, as an investor that pays full attention to ESG factors (Enviromental, Social and Governance), brings the project as a pioneering field of research in the areas of heritage revitalization, sustainable business and culturally and socially responsible tourism that can provide valuable insights to others. Along with our own success, we want to confirm and affirm values that would be applicable in other situations in Croatia. As a Croatian investor and state institution, we accept economic success as a necessary prerequisite for a wider set of socially useful goals.
We are committed to positioning the Rivia Arts & Culture Hotel as an exemplary example of multifaceted sustainable tourism. The project fits into today’s increasingly current concept of brownfield investments and the “never demolish” requirement in order to responsibly manage spatial resources and reduce the carbon footprint of construction. Rivia Arts & Culture Hotel promotes the architecture of Ivan Vitić and the wider context of the internationally recognized heritage of modernism in Croatia. Affirming the contributions of that still undervalued era, we establish the continuity of culture in Croatia, aware of the fact that heritage sets high standards and challenges modernity. Just as the architecture of Idis Turat accepts that challenge and continues where Vitić left off, so Rivia Arts & Culture Hotel accepts the tradition and achievements of tourism culture and translates it into the 21st century.
In accordance with the objectives of the Croatian Chamber of Commerce, the project is directed towards intensive cooperation with local and Croatian producers and suppliers, and maximum use of domestic resources. In this way, supply chains are reduced and carbon footprint of the business, the quality of the ingredients is guaranteed and authenticity is affirmed offers. We want to become an example of sustainability and synergy between the hotel industry and local communities.
